My initial opinion was to print out:
<DN> by <CA CN>
If you know the operation, you can:
<DN> by <CA CN> Sign|Decrypt

Notice that this does not require any knowledge of other elements.

You said that people know nothing about DN and you wish to use friendly names...
The cost of this is enumerating all certificate if a prompt is needed.
I think a system should be consistent... So you should create a
friendly name also to passive.
