It would be even better if we would select them based on distance.

BTW transports aren't such an issue because it's perfectly possible to 
use jabber.org for your Jabber account and amessage.de for their 
transports..

Or we can use jabbercentral to maintain a list of reliable servers. 
Maybe we can even use geoloc to order the list according to distance?
