I'm currently doing some housekeeping in the roster for the moment, so
i would be happy if other (non-roster related) features were implemented
first.
About the delimititer: i missed the whole discussion, but i don't know if
there would have been other (more elegant) ways to achieve this, without
breaking current clients. However, the least they might have done was fix the
delimiter.
I personally am in no need of nested roster groups, and i haven't seen
many clients who have it. The clients that do, what delimiter do they
use ? '::' ?
Drifting a little further away: My thoughts on not needing roster groups
is that you can get far with a decent and fast roster searching system:
the typing in the roster is a start, but i think this can be moved to
other levels: when you start typing, a little text field pops up (or
somewhere in the roster, as defined in the toolbars configuration),
_all_ (offline, hidden, ...) rosteritems are shown, and as you type,
more and more items who don't match your search criteria disappear; once
you're finished typing and doing the stuff with the roster items, you
press 'enter' or 'escape' in the little text field (or the little close
button on the left of the field), and everything is restored as it was.
The question remains what your search criteria are; obviously,
nicknames; but maybe also jids, names & nicks from the vcard (if it's
available).
cheers,
Remko
