Hm. In a way you are right. But i worry about custom iconsets that don't 
use an envelope to illustrate a message.
Users with this custom rostersets will find it easy to connect the event 
icon with the icon to create the event.

what in the roster may be a jumping rabbit should not be an envelope in 
the system, i think. Even if a rabbit is not the best symbol for a 
message ;)

when users want jumping rabbits - give them rabbits to click on.

incoming chat <--> create chat
incoming message <--> create message

should share the same icon. the difference should already be clear due 
to teh fact that one time you click on a contact, and one time you 
nacigate through a menu.
