In X11 no application is supposed to fight the windowmanager. The
windowmanager defines policy for placing windows. (and not all
windowmanagers are typical overlapping kind ones; e.g. tiling or other
ratpoison)
All apps can do is give some hints.

Maybe. But odds are that I don't like it anyway. 

But psi is in soft feature freeze isn't it?
So i'd suggest to think about that for after releasing psi?
