If you are referring to privacy lists, which are actually part of the XMPP
RFCs already, then the answer is "maybe."
Hidden folders are a way to temporarily hide a bunch of contacts which you
might still want to know are online.
But privacy lists could be used to fake the same functionality, by denying
presence packets from everyone you want hidden. In essence this would be a
sort of "reverse invisibility".
The difference is the level of complexity, and that jabberd1.x servers don't
support privacy lists yet.
