"co" is just an alias for "checkout", which actually makes sense... but nobody
in their right mind would type 6 more keystrokes if they knew the shorter way.

I could say the same thing about "pull", being unfamiliar with this 
terminology
compared to, say, "update", which makes more sense to me.

Yeah, that much is true.  Lots of people doing concurrent svn updates can hurt
the server a fair bit, I'm told... although not nearly as badly as CVS hurts a
server. :-)
