Interesting point of view.
I even have to agree with most of your thoughts because I remember how
BORING it is when you search your history for a specific url or password
or anything. Exactly how you described :)

But isn't that exactly the reason why there should be an elegant tool
that makes your life easier?
Even if I browse the history only from time to time I want to be
"cuddled" by an elegant tool.
Because as you mentioned: WHEN you browse - it is not because of fun,
but because you need something.
I like to have nice tools for important stuff. It makes me feel safer.
Jabber has a big deal to do with safety right?
- Wich leads me to my next argument:
I try to see jabber also as the "business tool" and not only the "dude
conversation tool".
Don't you think that instant and elegant control cannot be only nice
helpers during a quick search but _also_ important evidence of some
things at work?
History in jabber is like storage in mail.
Imagine you have a mail client that puts it's main focus on writing and
reading - but not storing mail.

In my eyes "mail" is an obstacle jabber has to pass on it's way to world
domination.
