Could be that was me.

You didn't get it I fear. This is pseudo-code, it's not about
efficiency. Your method, Peter, does not what was specified by the
discussion. If the window grows to the entire screen (or the maximum
allowed height or the top end or bottom end), how should it know that it
should shrink down- or upwards? So we need to remember the last intended
state.
