[Psi-devel] Status, status message, status messages

I was thinking in the topic of the status message, and browsing
Flyspray I have seen that already a lot of things I'm missing right
now concerning the own status message and contacts' status message are
already there.

What I was thinking was: "changing my status message is somehow
confusing". Indeed, I'm not really sure of which status message I have
in each moment. If I want to know my status message I have to wait for
a tooltip in my self contact or my account header, or activate the
"change status" dialog, which is not opened when selecting the
"online" status - by default... You know. Sometimes, some users (and
not just begginers, I do that) do want just to change their status
message, even if they are keeping the online status, or the away
status.

"There could be a small tag in the 'event notifier' toolbar, which
would show the current status, and would let the user edit his status
message anytime, without involving any dialog".

That was my idea... Actually, lots of things about the status message
are still "pending":

* 31 - Show own status message in tooltip (80% complete)
* 100 -	Easier selection of status messages. (0% complete)
* 139 - Remember status upon exit (50% complete)
* 282 -	Default status messages (0% complete)
* 299 -	Show status messages in roster (0% complete)
* 347 - Trim all whitespace at end of status messages (0% complete)
* 268 - Ability to set a default online status message (0% complete)

The small tag would help in #31 and #100.

To make things easier, what about not prompting for a status message
when changing the status, and adding an option in the status menu to
open the current "set status" dialog?

On the other hand, in that dialog, maybe changing the current combo
box for seven small exclusive buttons with the icons of the differnt
status would make things faster.

Maybe this is not the best solution; and some details should be fixed,
taking care of the multiple account case, but I think makes things
simpler than they are now...

Cheers,

Fran.
