This reminds me of an old joke:

What's the difference between student of the first year of Computer 
Science and last year student of Computer Science? Former is shocked to 
hear that 1 kilobyte is 1024 bytes and not 1000 bytes, while latter does 
not believe that 1 kilometer is 1000 meters and not 1024.
