A bit off-topic:

On the other hand, Opera browser has an option to switch between those 
two behaviours (close button on each tab vs. close button at the end of 
the tabset).

When I switched from Firefox (my computer is not a computing deamon 
anymore and Firefox had a increasing tendency to become stuck and its 
window(s) - snow white) to Opera, I used a single close button at the 
end of the tabset. Recently I've changed skin in Opera and decided to 
use close button on each tab. :)
