I'm surprised it is this way for ad-hoc, because it's a pretty 
simple standard. 

This said, I think we broke this cycle in the current development version
by implementing ad-hoc commands, pep, nicknames, and roster item exchange.
We've also been spreading this word: for PEP, we poked the jabber server
devs, which are working on it; for user nickname and roster item exchange,
we poked PyMSN-t, which will work on it in the next release.
