You can use animated GIFs, MNGs, or the "strip of images PNG" format.
The problem is that animated files only work properly for events (e.g. the
roster or trayicon). They don't work for emoticons. This is really just a
display issue, because we don't know how to animate icons properly within a
QTextEdit widget (if it is possible at all).
What's funny is that emoticons will animate in the emoticon selection area,
because that part doesn't use QTextEdit. Or at least, it used to work this
way. I haven't checked in awhile.
