You can do something intelligent with a db-like backend (like sqlite)
- only load about three of four pages of messages, when the user
scrolls down then load more pages from the database.

Although once you have a db backend, you can do interesting stuff like
searching in real time. The history window used to takes ages to load
(can't remember if this is fixed in dev)
