Just using a raw DB is nasty for people who want to manipulate the files 
though. :-)

I like the idea of keeping the plaintext files, plus a separate text index or 
offset index for faster searching/seeking.

I guess the compromise is to keep both and completely rebuild the database if 
the file changes outside the app.
