The drop down menu could look like:

(  ) show only available/chatty users
(  ) show all online users
(  ) show all (even offline) users
------------------
[  ] show self contact
[  ] show hidden contacts
[  ] show agents / transports
[  ] show status messages

That way you can rollup all the 'show' options into a single menu.

Another (very non-standard) way of doing it is a button which cycles
