Hmm, they might not be visible on Mac because when you minimise a window there 
I don't know if the icon displayed there is the one assigned to the window 
itself, or the generic one for the application.

They work on Windows and Linux though so it seems like it would be a good idea 
to put it in even if one platform doesn't benefit from it.

Of course you'd keep them in the dialog as well, since the window icon can't 
be hovered over to see the full status.
