Hal already gave you some hints. I will add a bit from myself:
Don't be afraid to ask :) Join Psi muc room or talk to devs (yeah, feel 
free to write me anytime :)).

And as Hal said, look into flyspray and maybe you can find something 
easy for beginning. BTW: Many tasks say that they are already assigned 
to someone, but - unfortunately - this often doesn't mean anything. So 
if you'd like to do something, but it already says it is assigned, write 
to check - maybe it is not really "taken" :)
