It is not always possible to know in advance how the choice of a name 
for software will affect the public use of it, don't you agree?

Take for example the fiasco with the Afrikaans release of the very 
unfortunately named Pidgin.  We took over the Afrikaans translation of 
Pidgin, and decided to use the release of it as a public relations 
exercise, with a press release. A reporter from AFP picked up the 
original English press release, had it translated in a hurry, rewrote 
it, translated it back into English, and syndicated it.  The sad result?

As for why I blundered and wrote "PSI", I suspect it has to do with the 
pronunciation.  I first heard of Psi from friends, and they all say "pee 
es eye" (none of them say "see", or even "psee"). :-)
