I'm not opposed to eventually using Phonon, if it can be as good as 
Farsight+GStreamer plans to be.  But I have my doubts that the Trolls could 
pull that off.

The advantage of Phonon is that it uses the "native" media engines on each 
platform.  However, this comes with a major downside: Phonon can only make 
use of the RTP development going on in the Farsight+GStreamer world for one 
platform.  To support Windows and Mac would mean replicating this work, under 
DirectShow and QuickTime.
