Hi Clytie,
I'm forwarding your mail to psi-devel, as it's of general interest to
the developers.
cheers,

Hey Spike! :D
Long time no e. Sorry, I've been too sick [1]. I hope you've been doing well. :)
I've just posted on the Psi Bugs forum, and I'm copying the text to
you here, in case you'd miss the post. You're the person most likely
to want to know about an OSX problem. ;)
Incidentally, did you notice that there's an OSX version of Qt
Linguist [2] publicly available? I used it to update my Psi
translation to 0.13. My old build wouldn't open on a newer system, and
I was going to ask you for another build, but first checked in case
there was a public version. And there was! They're following your
excellent example. ;)
Ooh, I just noticed on your webpage that you co-wrote the XMPP
Definitive Guide for O'Reilly. Writing an O'Reilly book is a huge
achievement. Congratulations! (I still have and treasure their
original HTML book, and my husband has several of their code books. I
subscribed to Safai Bookshelf for a few years, until I became too sick
to read anything but very simple text. Their books are GOOD.)
Did Psi go with git (another item on your site)? I wasn't too happy
when some of my projects started switching from SVN to git or bzr, but
I have to admit those two are MUCH faster than SVN, even when checking
out a huge project for the first time. I imagine the developer
benefits are even greater than those for a translator.
Anyway, Psi 0.13 and Snow Leopard (contents of my post):
Yesterday after upgrading my MacBook Pro (Intel) to OSX 10.6 (Snow
Leopard), I also updated my Psi 0.11 to 0.13 (the current version). It
hangs on open.
I upgraded Snow Leopard to 10.6.1, repaired permissions, restarted
(holding down Shift) into Safe Boot Mode (which runs fsck once) and
generally cleaned up, but Psi 0.13 still won't open. Psi 0.11 still
works as normal.
Weird, huh? I did have problems after upgrading to 10.6: the original
Software Update 10.6.1 update hung on "registering modules" and I had
to force-reboot. After that, all sorts of things wouldn't work.
However, the restart into Safe Boot Mode seemed to fix most of them. I
could run installers again, and things that wouldn't open before, did
open.
However, Psi 0.13 still didn't open. Strangely enough, no hang or
crash log is created. Psi 0.13 just sits there in the Dock, no window
or menu showing, and often doesn't even have "Force Quit" showing,
indicating erroneously that it is functioning normally.
I do have one or two remaining post-upgrade problems (PathFinder isn't
exactly happy, QuickSilver crashed while the laptop was asleep last
night and the TextExpander daemon is crashing persistently) but I
wondered if anyone else running Snow Leopard has Psi 0.13 working?
Psi is not yet rated in this Snow Leopard Compatibility list [3], and
I don't use enough of Psi's non-direct-chat features to be sure that
Psi 0.11 can do everything it should. However, someone who does use
those features could add Psi versions to that list, to promote Psi and
generally help its rep.
I don't suppose I really need Psi 0.13, since Psi 0.11 is working for
me, but in general I like to keep up with the versions, particularly
since I translate Psi into Vietnamese. I'd like to solve this problem
of Psi 0.13 not opening under OSX 10.6.1.
